Brief Organization History and Mission
When HIV/AIDS infection was reported in Thailand in 1982, the
Camillian of Thailand was also alarmed about the situation and started to
discuss how the Order could address this tragic problem. The Order
agreed to put its hands on the issue. On behalf of the Order, Fr. Giovanni
Contarin, an Italian Camillian missionary priest, opened up a center to
help those infected with HIV/AIDS, called relief center in Soi Rawadee,
Nonthaburi Province, with the goal of reiteration giving
counseling/advice to those involved and infected with HIV/AIDS.
Soon Bantao Jai started working the year 1993. After a year, the people in local community nearby the center started to force us to stop the Center and leave out from the local community. They did not want the center to be near their residential area due to their lack of knowledge of the HIV/AIDS infection and their fear. In 1995, Soon Bantao Jai was raided by grenades and guns and moved to Rayong.
After the Camillian of Thailand had closed Soon Bantao Jai, the Camillian searched for a new place to restart the program. Eventually, the foundation committee decided to restart the program about HIV/AIDS in the land which was donated by a generous lady in Rayong province. From that time on, the people who were affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS had a place to live and continue their lives. It is like a house that they are able to reside in, like a family where they are able to find security and happiness. Camillian Social Center, Rayong which was officially opened in the year 1996 and since than several programs on HIV/AIDS were implemented.
The operation of HIV/AIDS activities under Camillian Social Center Rayong had been expanded phase by phase according to the nature of work and the implementation of different projects. At present there are 6 projects under the supervision of this Center. 1. Project of Home of orphaned children living HIV/AIDS with and affected by the virus. 2.
